  2. Accessibility Plan

Accessibility Plan

The following Accessibility Plan has been written using the information from our previous plan and the fact that the new building has been designed for disabled access.

1. Approach and Car Park

There are no steps into the school from the car park, therefore there is wheelchair access.  From the playground area there is a ramp which will give access to all areas.  There is an area designated for disabled drivers in the car park.

2. Reception Area

A low level counter is provided and access for wheelchair users into the hall area and classrooms is available.  Floor surfaces throughout are non-slip.

3. Accessible WC

There are three disabled toilets with access for wheelchairs.

4. Classrooms

There is good visual contrast in all the rooms.  Door widths allow access for wheelchair users and there is sufficient room to provide wheelchair turning space within the classroom areas.  There is access to the external classrooms.

5. Assembly Hall

Door widths allow access for wheelchair users and there is sufficient room to provide wheelchair turning space within the area.

6. Access to the playing fields

There are good tarmac surfaces surrounding the school buildings, and it is possible to access the playing fields for those with mobility impairments and wheelchair users.

Potential Areas For Improvement

1. Assembly Hall

The assembly hall and some classrooms have hearing induction loops fitted, but they have not been connected.   This would be particularly beneficial for hearing aid users as the sound is amplified and is very useful when there are performances or meetings.

2. General

At events where a large number of people are expected, on the original invite (newsletter) it would be ideal to ask if any parent/grandparent/visitor has any special requirements and ask them to contact us to advise.  In this way it might be easier to meet their needs.  Large print carol sheets, as an example, size 14 or 16 font size might help those members of the audience whose vision has become impaired to participate.  Those with hearing impairments might benefit from sitting at the front of any staged event.
